Reception by the Terrassa City Council for the President of the SCC-IEC, Joan Francesc Fondevila, and the board of directors

The mayor of Terrassa, Jordi Ballart, and councilor Montserrat Caupena received on Friday, February 20, the Board of Directors of the Catalan Society of Communication of the Institute of Catalan Studies (SCC-IEC), chaired by Joan Francesc Fondevila Gascón, in an event at Terrassa City Hall that reflects the spirit of territorial expansion of the IEC’s activity.
“It is an honor and a source of pride that the first meeting of the SCC-IEC Board of Directors outside of Barcelona is taking place in Terrassa,” said Fondevila, the first president of the Terrassa-based entity, the IEC’s subsidiary company specializing in communication sciences and research in Catalan.
After the reception at the mayor’s office, the Board of Directors (made up of communication researchers from the various Catalan-speaking territories) met at the Casa de l’Esport in Terrassa. It is the first in-person meeting of the SCC-IEC Board of Directors outside of Barcelona. Afterwards, a guided tour was held at the Casa de l’Esport and the Casa Alegre de Sagrera.
The Institut d’Estudis Catalans is the normative reference body for the Catalan language as a whole. The entity works with the vision of being the academic reference for the Catalan language and culture, advising public authorities and having the capacity for social influence from reflection, rigor and independence of criteria. The IEC, which is organized into sections and subsidiary societies, acts as an academy for the Catalan language and a research study center in all subjects of knowledge.
The Societat Catalana de Comunicació, a subsidiary of the Institut d’Estudis Catalans, was founded in 1986 on the initiative of a group of professors and professionals in the field of communication. The SCC-IEC organizes, among other activities, the International Congress of Research in Communication (which will reach its ninth edition on April 9 and 10), the Annual Conference of the SCC, the Meeting of Scientific Journals in Communication, the Winter Lesson and the Recognitions in Communication. In addition, the entity periodically publishes the indexed scientific journal Comunicación: revista de recerca i d’análisis. The SCC-IEC, which has two hundred members from the academic and professional fields of communication, also co-organizes numerous scientific sessions and conferences.
One of the lines of action of the IEC and the SCC-IEC is the territorial expansion and decentralization of activities. “In this sense, it is nice to have held a meeting of the Board of Directors in Terrassa, with the symbolic addition that it is the first to be held outside Barcelona. The idea is to continue carrying out activities throughout the territory”, explains Fondevila.
