Joan Francesc Fondevila Gascón, Connexió Award for Lifetime Achievement

Professor Joan Francesc Fondevila Gascón, director of the Cable Studies Center (CECABLE), has been awarded the Connexió Award for Lifetime Achievement in recognition of his 30 years leading the organization and his academic, journalistic, and research work. “This award fills me with joy and emotion, and further motivates me to continue my scientific research and outreach work on cable, telecommunications, and broadband,” said Fondevila, who received the award at a ceremony held at the headquarters of the CNMC (National Commission for Markets and Competition) in Barcelona.

Fondevila founded the Center for Cable Studies (CECABLE), a research center specializing in cable and broadband, in Terrassa in 1995. The organization was founded with the aim of scientifically analyzing the phenomenon of cable telecommunications, the Broadband Society, and cloud journalism, and their resulting social impacts.

CECABLE, which has received numerous awards for its pioneering spirit, is a leader in the sector in terms of the number of scientific publications, thanks to the work of the Research Group on Innovative Monetization Systems in Digital Journalism and Marketing. This group is affiliated with several universities, and Fondevila, president of the Catalan Society of Communication-Institute of Catalan Studies (SCC-IEC), is the principal investigator. The group has published hundreds of scientific articles, books, book chapters, and presentations at scientific conferences, which has allowed it to achieve the highest scientific accreditations and research awards.

In terms of outreach, the organization has hosted the DMTforum annually since 1996, formerly known as the Cable and Broadband Catalonia Congress. Furthermore, it participates and collaborates on international and national research projects, in media outlets, and in outreach activities related to cable, broadband, journalism, and digital content creation.

The Connexió Awards, organized by Feceminte (Catalan Federation of Telecommunications Companies) and Acutelan, recognize the work of companies, organizations, projects, and individuals that contribute to the social, economic, technological, or scientific spheres and have become a benchmark in the telecommunications sector.
