Dr. Fondevila, Excellence Award in ICT Communication and Dissemination

Dr. Joan Francesc Fondevila Gascón, director of the Cable Studies Center (CECABLE), University professor (Pompeu Fabra University, University Mediterrani School of the University of Girona, Blanquerna-Universitat Ramon Llull, Open University of Catalunya, Barcelona University and Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona) and author of the scientific blog “Telecomunicaciones y Periodismo” (http://www.telecomunicacionesyperiodismo.com/), has been awarded with the Excellence Award in ICT Communication and Dissemination by the Col·legi d’Enginyers Tècnics i Pèrits de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (COETTC) at the 14th national day of Telecomunicacions in Catalonia, held in the CosmoCaixa of Barcelona on 29 September 2015.

“It is a matter of deep emotion and joy and an honour to receive this award,” says Dr. Fondevila, holding a long task of research and dissemination of information and communications technology. Dr. Fondevila has published numerous scientific indexed articles, books, book chapters and conference papers, and is the author of scientific blog “Telecommunications and Journalism”, born in 2011 and an international leader in their areas of expertise.

In the scientific blog Dr. Fondevila, principal investigator of the Research Group on Broadband and Digital Journalism and of the Research Group on Innovative Monetization Systems in Journalism and Digital Marketing (SIMPED) and organiser of the Cable and Broadband Catalonia Congress (in 2015, it has achieved the 20th edition), presents the results of his investigations and major industry news. With lots of participation, the blog is a benchmark for analyzing the Broadband society, cloud journalism, Journalism as a Service, grid journalism or social journalism commerce, scientific concepts coined by Dr. Fondevila. “To conjugate ICT scientific work with communications and outreach is very beautiful, is a daily, enjoying and exciting discovery,” says Dr. Fondevila, who explains “journalism and telecommunications, joined in the Internet, are essential binomial for our society to improve productivity and, above all, to preserve sustainability.”
