The 20th edition of the event on cable and broadband

The analysis of present and future on the cable and broadband in Catalonia focus XX Cable and Broadband in Catalonia-2015, organized by the CECABLE, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), the Observatory of Scientific Communication at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) and Universitat de Girona (Escola Universitària Mediterrani), will be held from 5 to 7 May 2015 at the School of Engineering at UAB, Bellaterra.

“Catalonia and Spain are leading a generous display of very fast broadband. We have to try that this process does not become paralyzed because of the interpretations of competition”, explains Dr. Joan Francesc Fondevila, director of the Cable Studies Center (CECABLE) and professor at various universities.

The annual event on the Catalan telecommunications analyze the evolution of broadband network (cable, xDSL, HFC, FTTx, satellite, PLC or microwave) and the content and services that can fit into the triple play, the quadruple play or the quintuple play.

In the event are participating and collaborating institutions such as the Generalitat of Catalonia, UAB, Cercle Fiber, Marketing Club of Barcelona, College of Industrial Engineers of Barcelona (CETIB) Enginyers Catalan Association of Telecommunication (Telecos.cat), College of Technical Telecommunications of Catalonia (COETTC), College of Engineering in Computer of Catalonia (COEIC), National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC), Faculty of Communication Sciences at UAB, Catalan Federation of Employers Installers of Telecommunications (Feceminte) FECOTEL (Coordinator of Telecommunications Federation), Federation of Telecommunications Installers (Fenitel), Barcelona Digital Technology Centre, TIC.CAT, Red.es, Localret, AOTEC (National Association of Telecommunications Operators and Internet Service Providers), AEDOC (Spanish Association of Digital Documentation), AETIC (Association Business Information Technologies and Communications of Spain), ANEI (National Association of Internet), APD (Association for the Advancement of Management), Asimelec (Multisectorial Association of Spanish Electronics and Communications), Catalan Association of Technology (ACTec), Computer Technicians Association (ITA), Astel (Association for Operating Companies and Telecommunications Services), CTecno, Vallès Technology Park (PTV), CENATIC (National Center for the Application of Information Technology and Communication ICT), Ilimit, International Association of Technology, Education and Development (IATED), Foundation for Infotechnologic Development of Enterprise and Society (Fundetec), Platform FOTÓNICA21 or Catalan Society of Technology.

The first session will discuss the May 5 “Broadband in Catalonia and Spain” and will feature presentations from Wifidom, Adamo, Fibracat, Ericsson, Adobe, Telefónica, Voz Telecom, NeoSky and BT. In the afternoon, at block “Services and content on broadband networks”, the roundtable will be held “The keys to success of Catalan and Spanish historical cable” with exhibitions of CECABLE, Alpha Enginyeria for Telecommunications, Acotec, Airenetworks, La Cala de Fibra and the City of Mequinenza. “The phenomenon of traditional cable is an example of coexistence between large operators issued the latest legislation and romantic but effective experiences of the television networks supplying service to numerous municipalities”, said Fondevila. After the roundtable, there will be the speech of Memory Merits, Eurona Telecom, Guifi.net and Ilimit.

In the second session, on May 6, the “Evolution of installation type and cable broadband” will be studied by contributions from Huawei, Promax, Corning, Xarxa Oberta de Catalunya, Cable Runner,  Datwyler Cabling Solutions, Technetix and Meru Networks. In the afternoon, in “New Horizons for the computer industry”, there will be Watchguard, Bitdefender, Microsoft, UNIT4 and Panda Security.

The third meeting on May 7, entitled “Impacts of various broadband networks”, begin with the traditional institutional roundtable, this time on “New sources of employment thanks to broadband?”, with representatives of CECABLE, Generalitat of Catalonia, Localret, FECEMINTE, Telecos.cat, COETTC, and Xarxa Oberta de Catalunya. After it, Telvent-Schneider Electric, Sony, Anxanet, Abertis Telecom and Clúster Audiovisual de Catalunya will explain their positions. The main social networks (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+, Instagram) allow to follow the event.
